The Burden: Govt’s head in the sand on cascading Long Covid

Analysis: More than two years ago, as Covid-19 first began spreading in earnest in New Zealand after the opening of the borders and the arrival of the Omicron variant, researchers sounded the alarm about Long Covid.
A project concluded in early 2022 found many people infected in earlier, small outbreaks had faced lasting repercussions from the aftereffects of the virus. Mona Jeffreys, the lead researcher on that study, told Newsroom that as a thousand times more people were being infected than before, those impacts would cascade like a rolling maul.
